Volunteers Needed for Club Fridays

Club Friday will return on Friday September 30, 2016! The Lodge has hired a cook for two Club Friday Nights per month.  We plan on covering the other two Club Friday Nights with volunteers.  The volunteers needed will be for a cook and miscellaneous runner and dish washer! The menu that is planned will be cook friendly and we are planning on working with the volunteers so that they will be comfortable cooking those items!

This will be a new endeavor for our Lodge!  Others do run the kitchen with volunteers, and it works well for them!

If you are interested in volunteering to cook or just help out, contact Doug at the Lodge: 712-246-5110!  We appreciate all the support and encouragement as we move forward with Club Fridays!

Elks Deer Hide Program for Veterans

Shortly, on September 17, 2016, the official Deer Hunting season begins with the Youth season.  Once again, as in years past, the Shenandoah Elks Lodge will be collecting Deer hides for the Elks Veterans Leather Program.

For many patients in VA hospitals, time can move slowly between visits from family and friends. In addition to holding events and providing friendship to veterans in VA hospitals, Elks also provide the tools for veterans to take up a new skill. The Veterans Leather Program relies on the charity of hunters across the nation to donate hides so they can be turned into leather used for therapy programs for recovering veterans.

Leather is also used to provide professionally-crafted gloves for veterans in wheelchairs, which are distributed at veterans sports clinics and gatherings throughout the country.

Each year, thousand of Elks step up to help out with this program, offering their time, energy and skills to serve veterans. In 2014-15 alone, more than 15,000 hides were donated to the Elks. These generous gifts were used to create thousands of gloves and therapy kits for veterans at no charge.

Please encourage Deer hunters to donate their Deer hides to this worth while program.  We have a container at the Shenandoah Elks Lodge labeled “Deer Hides” for your generous donations!

Thank You for your support of this program!
